After School Club- Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Nate, and Mr. Jeff
Homework, tutoring, and daily brain challenges continue to be the focus for the After School Group. After "work" time comes play time! THe children have been busy cooking, playing games- both inside and out, and getting creative. Theis group really enjoys exploring various art forms including crayon batik. Perhaps the favorite task so far has been "Create-a-Creature." THe children used different art materials to create their own creature and then had to tell a story about what they made! Gene Leffever (Interpersonal Dynamics) treated the group to a very special afternoon. He taught the After School Club various games that enhanced sportsmanship and stressed the importance of each member on the team!

We will be looking for things of which there are 4 along with things in the shape of a star or the color yellow. We will read Jaguar’s Jungleberry Jamboree as we introduce the letter “J.” Then we are off to the bakery as we learn about bakers and the types of food the make. The children will be making some dough for play activities. We will read Kangaroo Kazoo as we introduce the letter “K.” Have you noticed all of the lights and different kinds of decorations? Christmas is quickly approaching. The excitement is mounting. We will be talking about some of the decorations we see and be making some of our decorations for the holiday season as well as practice using our lacing skills. We’ll also enjoy The Lamb Who Loved to Laugh as we introduce the letter “L.” Then we will close the month focusing on the true meaning of Christmas. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!!

We also spent some time learning about the Pilgrims and Native Americans. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving feast and talking about what we are thankful for. December will bring us a very busy holiday season. We will learn about Hanukkah and “light” a Menorah each day. We will make dreidels and learn how to play. Next we travel to Sweden to celebrate St. Lucia’s Day. Finally we travel to Finland, Italy, Belgium, Australia, Mexico, and back to the USA to learn about Christmas around the world. We will end our holiday learning about Kwanzaa. Happy Hanukkah! Buon Natale! Happy Kwanzaa! Merry Christmas!

This month our focus takes us to: Toddlers and Kindergarten!
Toddlers- Miss Jenn and Miss Josie:The crisp fall air feels very refreshing on our walks. We look forward to watching the new changes coming with the season. Our first week is Fire Prevention Week. We will practice fire safety and make a fire truck project. Over the next few weeks of October, we will experience fall to the fullest. We will watch the changes on the trees and smell the difference in the air. Pumpkins, scarecrows, and leaves will be a big focus in our arts and crafts. Remember: picture day is October 19th! See you at the Harvest Fest!
Kindergarten- Miss Danielle M. and Miss Danielle Y.
We have started to notice the changes brought about by fall. We have begun to talk about the changing colors of leaves, pumpkins, and the cooler weather. We have added different fall related words into our sight word list. We have incorporated word families into our activities by making a word family wall (-op,-at). We have really been enjoying our folk tale unit and learning about people such as Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill. The students are really interested in our unit. We will be moving onto fairy tales soon and will be comparing the two. We have also started sign language with Ms. Carol where we are learning fall words. Happy Fall!! Hope to see you all at the Harvest Festival!

This month our focus takes us to: Enriched Nursery and Afterschool!
Enriched Nursery (Miss Carol)- We are off to a great start to our school year. We've met all our Specials Teachers: Mr. Herbst (Phys. Ed), Miss Wendy (Science & Nature), and Miss Kim (Creative Movement, Music, and Spanish). Our schedule certainly keeps us hopping! So far, we are getting to know each other, learning new routines, and settling in nicely!! The month of September brings discussions of manners, friends, autumn, and we we will begin the alphabet. The children are enjoying the signs they've learned so far. Here's to a great year!
After School Club (Mr. Nate, Mr. Jeff, and Mrs. Thomas)- Our year began with a swim (before the rains and cool weather changed our plans), splashing, water noodle games, and lots of active participation. Homework has begun for the older grades with more need for computer resources. The younger grades are keeping occupied with lots of mental challenges enabling homework to be completed by those required to do so. Cooking class will start on Fridays with the creations of homemade breads and fruit smoothies. The rule of the kitchen continues to be- if you make it, you must eat it! Art and craft activities have been offered when the weather causes us to spend more time inside. Outside (after homework and snack) is where you find us full engaged in active games and sports. We are professionals at Junk Yard Sports where we recycle almost everything to create interesting games. Feel free to join in- we guarantee a healthy workout!
