FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Day Camp and School?

A: The Curiosity Shoppe is a privately licensed school by the PA Dept. of Education. We follow the age appropriate state Standards in a very creative manner to spark and enhance children’s desire to learn. The Curiosity Shoppe Summer Camp Program follows the American Camping Association guidelines to offer a well balanced outdoor program.

Q: If my child is upset and doesn’t want me to leave, should I stay and hang out for 20 minutes?

A: Not really. It would be best for the child’s emotional development to have him/her prepared to separate from you in a loving manner. The drop off should be as short as possible, the reason being is that your child would sense that you are uncomfortable with leaving him/her and therefore feel more uncomfortable.

Q: Will my child learn how to swim?

A: Non swimmers are instructed in a specially designed low water pool by American Red Cross certified lifeguards & instructors. The children’s camp counselor is always in attendance at the pool. Children who have mastered swimming skills have their lessons in the 5 lane, 25 meter pool with certified Instructors and lifeguards.

Q: Is there drinking water available to them during the day?

A: Large thermos of fresh cool water is placed around the entire camp several times daily.

Q: Do you give “time-outs” and if so, for what and how do you handle the situation?

A: No! If a correction is needed then the child is spoken to at eye level about the situation and redirected.

Q: What activities do they do during Day Camp?

A: Instructional swim, Recreational swim, crafts, Science discoveries, theater arts, music, arts, Nature exploration, Intro to Sports, Field Games, Scavenger Hunts, Paddle boating, table top games, puzzles, beach fun, Silly Pool play, Reading garden, visits to play yards, and so much more!

Q: What do we need to bring for camp each day?

A: Back pack including - Swimsuit, towel, sunblock, change of clothes, & Lunch.
Nursery and down: All of above including - Blanket and/ or stuffed toy for naptime (no toys from home, please).

Q: What do we need to bring for school each day?

A: Back pack including – Change of clothes, Lunch, indoor shoes (i.e. slippers), Blanket and/or soft toy for naptime – Nursery Class and down.

Q: Are we allowed to bring microwavable foods in the summer?

A: We prefer you provide a picnic lunch as we sit outside under tents when weather permits. **We do have microwave usage for our younger children.

Q: Where do I drop my child off in the morning for Day Camp?

A: In the Play yard before 8:30 am. After 8:30 am, you’d need to come to the office with your children – sign in station is outside the play area for parents convenience. (BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR PHOTO I.D.) As our staff are trained to I.D. until they are familiar with the parents.

Q: Why can’t my child wear their sandals or flip flops to Day Camp?

A: Because we use the entire property for activities throughout the day. Sandals or flip flops hinder a child’s ability to fully participate in all the activities offered. Also, we have experienced way too many injured toes!
